WHAT A LIBERAL VOTE WILL MEAN IN THE FUTURE

In the Daily Telegraph today:

Lib Dems: Nick Clegg will back Tories in hung Parliament

Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, will support David Cameron if the Conservatives are the largest party in a hung Parliament.

In consultations with senior members of the party, he said he was prepared to take the necessary steps that would enable the Tories to form a minority administration.

Mr Clegg ruled out taking a Cabinet seat in a Conservative government in return for his support and instead would provide Mr Cameron with "supply and confidence" – meaning he would promise to back a Conservative Budget and would side with the Tories in any votes of confidence.

Nothing further to add really ! Explains why our local Tories have got so soft on the local LibDems......

Surely they're soft on local Libs coz they're wiped out? Or does the election of our Shirl to Newport Town Council constitute a comeback!

Didnt Blair discuss the same thing with Ashdown prior to 1997 ?

Blair was going to be PM and was interested in a big centre-left semi-alliance. Clegg is who exactly ? Certainly he will NEVER be a PM, just as the LDs will NEVER form a government and a vote for them is entirely wasted.Anyone remember what Dr Brand did for the IW during his four wasted years ?????

Brand said his greatest achievement as Mp was to become Commodore of the Commons Yacht club, this was at an island hustings meeting during an election - the one he lost. Doh!

Let's hope Mrs Wareham does a little better next time, although I note former Lib candidate Anthony Rowlands (aka the man from St Albans) has been spotted on the island a lot recently. He was walking the Wight on Sunday.

So was Mrs Wareham doing the 26 miles Rowlands and Wareham were not walking together he probally could not keep up.

He couldn't keep up physically or intellectually with Mrs W?

As predicted - Labour lost London and now Crewe, this is a humiliation for Labour but not a surprise. They've run out of ideas and those they did have were mostly stolen from the Tories.

Crew proves the Libs are where they always are, a poor third. Clegg is surely worse than Ming?

The future? Step forward David Cameron. Not because people love him, they just can no longer stand New Labour nor do they believe Labour knows how to run things.

Our country is in a terrible mess, just ask anyone, be honest? And people know it's not all the fault of American banks or oil prices. Growing demand for oil and food in India and China was as predictable and predicted as the eventual failure of house price inflation. Tony and Gordon just ignored these and other problems. They failed to plan - just like they did in Iraq.

It'll be 15- 20 years before Labour run Britain again, get used to it Geoff. People trust the Tories in bad times.
