Eco Island ? They're joking!

So this is what Eco Island is about !

A highly contentious 'highway improvement' scheme is being introduced near where I live in Fairlee ward. I oppose it. The scheme that is now being introduced is not only contentious - but ENTIRELY different to what local residents were told it would be during the consultation. The revised scheme appears to have allowed the cutting down of two entirely healthy trees to create traffic turning areas. Cars before the environment.......the usual stuff.

When I saw this happening this morning I contacted the Council's tree preservation people. They told me they only protect trees that don't belong to the Council as the assumption is that the Council would not cut down trees unnecessarily. Staggered by this chutzpah I then tried to contact Highways, but 8.30am was a bit early for an answer. So the trees bit the dust to the amazement of all who witnessed it.

I have emailed MY councillor about it, but no reply so far. I will post actual pictures later....

That is disgraceful Geoff.
Why should any Council employee be able to chop down trees at will without the appropriate tree people having a say?
I would say more but I am just so upset.

Typical IWC Geoff, you see what the rest of us put up with? Planning don't answer Friday afternoons.

Did you know they went through the fibre optic link to Jubilee Stores while putting up the big green picnic marquees. And they evacuated County Hall staff because they also went through a gas pipe with the metal stakes they used. How much to repair the damage?

Word is they denied both events when asked outright by the County Press! Are press officers allowed to lie. Could you find out please Cllr Lumley?

The whole thing is a farce! With the Island roads awash with pot-holes, countless thousands have been spent just to put up a GATE! And as for the trees - the Council won't be happy until the whole Island is covered in concrete. Doubtless they can then cancel their countryside maintenance contracts and give each other a slap on the back for saving so much money! Keep speaking up Geoff - the rest are too busy eating their lunches and catered-for events at my expense to talk!!

Unlimited funds are available - for cycleways and footpaths. Sadly the people paying for all this (motorists) find the cupboard bare when they want a few holes filled in! Petrol £1.25 a litre, 80% of it tax. What a stupid system hitting the poorest hardest. Why doesn't a Labour government see it?
Mr Range Rover cruising the West End can afford high fuel costs, rural people cannot.

Are press officers allowed to lie? Not actually a lie as you never asked the right questions.

1: Contractors never went through the fibre-optic cables as staff stopped them when they starting getting very close too them.

2: Their drilling of the stake holes set off the "bomb-alert" alarms (not a Gas pipe) however County hall was then evacuated because of it.
