REFUGEE FROM PLANET TORY DEPARTS

So Melanie Swan has decided to resign as IW Councillor for Mount Joy ward in Newport. Thankfully after 5 years or so on Planet Tory, Melanie returned to civilisation in December 2007 and joined the small band of IW councillors I have any respect for. I will never forget the shock I had in March 2003 seeing her door-knocking in Newport with the Tory MP, having always previously considered her to be the antithesis of a Tory. She will be missed, particularly by those who have campaigned against the school reorganisation. I am pleased she is staying on with the less burdensome Newport Parish Council.

Now for a by-election. Not something a Labour activist relishes much these days, though at least here on the Island the voters now remember how arrogant the Tories are in power - and how invisible the Liberals are.

EXACTLY GEOFF, SHE WAS NEVER A PROPER TORY AND COULDN'T ACCEPT COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY.

responsibility is a strange word for what the Tories have been up to!

Melanie worked tirelessly with Patrick Joyce trying to reform the Island schools for 2 years only to see all their hard work shelved and Pugh and co go completely against the mandate they promise at the last election. No wonder she's given up being IW councillor.
If you can't trusted the people who are supposed to be on the same side as you who can you trusted.
What is Collective Responsibility in is case. Does this mean you are only allowed to agree with the leader and have not mind of your own?

Heaven forbid that another Tory wins the seat. Surely the people of the Island know that it all went wrong when baby Pugh took over as leader. Up till then they seemed to be doing a fair job.

My guess is that Master Pugh will soon be gone but the Tories will remain in power. I wonder who will be our Leader and what their plan will be for education?

The fact is Ms Swann's ideas were rejected by her group. The extra year idea was barmy! We have no choice but to go two tier, standing alone in the entire UK is bonkers when your results are as poor as ours.
