CAN'T 'READ ALL ABOUT IT' !

I saw the first edition of a free newspaper on a Council Director's desk today. 'The Island Gasbag' or something. The only copy I've seen and it was dated 1 August. Which is surprising given how many other local publications end up in my reading pile. Oh well - clearly not a paper that wants the working-class hoi-poloi to see it........

This exciting new publication is available free Geoff at the outlets you'd normally get your Island life magazine. It's called the Gazette. It aims to write good news stories, unlike those you find in the County De- Press!

Mind you, I haven't seen much of you pictured in Island Life at the usual balls etc. Do you not get invited?

As if !

Are you obsessed with class Councillor Lumley? It's beginning to look like it.

Cllr. Geoff Lumley said...

But of course ! Not all of us have been convinced we now live in a classless society, because the evidence does not stack up.

Thurroch have a Gazette and so do Luton and Dunstable!

There's a difference between a classless society and the Dickensian society which you seem to feel still exists. That difference is where we are, even though Labour has been doing its utmost to divide and conquer over the last 11 years.

"Seem to feel" ? Who are you - my aspirant psychologist !

Poor Geoff, no balls! Bet you didn't join in at the Chairman's reception for Cowes week either? What a waste of money!

Cllr. Geoff Lumley said...

Cowes ? Certainly not. Once in 2006 was quite enough.

Did I say 'I know how you feel' or did I say 'how you seem to feel'?

Firstly, in this context 'feel' actually means 'think'; it is nothing to do with your emotions, but your opinions. Secondly, I can only go on what you put on your blog and it doesn't take a psychologist to see your way of thinking.

Have I hit a nerve or something as you SEEM to be very sensitive about the subject?

Picked my copy up at Morrisons, from the petrol kiosk. Can't get much more upper class than Morrisons!

I don't think you are as clever as you SEEM to think.
There is nothing 'upper class' about functions which allow elected representatives to eat and drink free of charge with invited 'celebrities'.
If councillors want to organise these events they are welcome to do so, but they should pay for themselves and their guests and not rely on council taxpayers to pick up the bill.

How has a commentary on a free local rag become mixed up with objections to councillor's freebies (about which I am in complete agreement with you by the way)? I, too, pay not only exorbitant council tax but also exorbitant amounts of other taxes. All thanks to the labour government of the last 11 years.

As far as being clever is concerned, no I do not think I am clever, I know exactly who and what I am. I am very aware of the unfairnesses heaped upon our society by a government which fetes the rich and has a 'moral compass' which is out of step with most people, from all backgrounds. Not all people though, some have done quite nicely thank you.

Semantics, semantics, semantics. Keep highlighting things which need to be publicised but please leave out the 'class war' stuff. Most of us are 'workers' struggling with our finances and trying to do our best, if we are lucky enough to have a job.

Don't let the ........ grind you down.
