THE DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES

Yesterday - "I would like to assure all staff that Mike Fisher remains the council’s Chief Executive" (***, Asst Chief Exec of IWC)

Today - "
Mike Fisher, the Isle of Wight Council’s Chief Executive will take early retirement from his post with effect from January 8", and "***, currently one of the two Assistant Chief Executives,is to take on an interim role as Chief Executive"

Assurances at what is seemingly becoming a nest of vipers. And all predicted by me on November 14th.

Ahhh, we're always the last to know eh? Even though we're paying.
The sixth CX falls on his sword in less than five years, this madness has perhaps cost us over a million pounds in pay offs and enhanced pensions! Who needs front line services when you can spend all the money so much more easily on axeing Chiefs?

Yes, and why is the CX post so impossible? Old Fisher was doing pretty well for a while, but something happened which changed his mind. What could it be? Will he, perhaps, be writing his memoirs?

I see that the Council is admitting that loss of senior officers is affecting services. No bloody wonder! Not a day goes by without some old stalwart baling out. Only the real big ones hit the news, but for each of them you can add on another dozen or so who you've never heard of. The ones who go first are the best qualified, best experienced, who can either retire or easily get a job elsewhere. Those who are left behind (like me) can't get a job elsewhere or by God we would. So you're left with a demotivated, demoralised, badly qualifed, poorly managed workforce. Still, at least we got the Investors in People Award.
