One of the few good things about the Pugh administration was their new transparency about Budget setting; something I applauded. Its a shame that the same transparency isn't being shown for tonight's Full Council debate on schools reorganisation.
Apparently the Council Leader is intending to propose a policy Motion tonight, without giving any notice as should constitutionally be required, that the Council Chairman believes (as he is privy to these plans despite supposedly being neutral in his role),
"I am sure (the impact of change) will be more than satisfactorily addressed by the Motion to be moved by the Leader of the Council".
Of course many of us will only see this Motion tonight, thus giving us no time to consider and consult. But what do the Tory Leadership care ? They have the votes in the bag no matter what I think, so my quibbles don't amount to anything.

Geoff,
Is it true that two members of Pugh's
camp have been taken to the standards board over not declaring an interest when debating and voting on education? And does this mean they cannot use their vote tonight?
Sorry, I cannot confirm that. Like you I have heard things particularly about one, but nothing definite
How about the rumour that "Boy Wonder" had to jump as leader of Tory Youth due to ballot rigging?
The Daily Mirror ran a story where he was denounced in public as a "cheating bastard" amid accusations of vote rigging. He went on from the Young Tories job to work as the copy boy in Beardsall's - and now he is running the Island.... Scary.
What tosh! Beardsall's was a uni job, shame more kids don't get them.
Those against education improvement have really let themselves down by making this issue so personal. It's been very sad to see how people are willing to say anything if they think it may have some impact. Using kids in the way they have been is shameful too. Last nights vote was a damp squib, no crowds, no raised voices just strong well meaning people doing what the thought best. Well done.
I was at Council last night. After the school vote every single opposition member left the chamber, as did the gallery. Only the Tories were left for all the other business.
What a bunch of bad losers! No doubt they all get their full allowance despite staying for only one item on the agenda?
Sorry anonymous it's not true about the copy boy job being a student job - but if that's what he's told you it must be right.... He certainly worked there longer than he stuck at either of his (failed) uni courses!
Oooh, nasty. I told you it was all too personal. And all you lot have great careers after 1st class Honours degrees of course?
What a rotten lot. Pugh was elected, get over it. I hate Gordon Brown and patiently await my chance to register my vote against him at the next election. Why not do the same with Pugh eh? It's democracy.
Fancy that! Rumours (denied in recent months) that the £150,000 a year Chief Exec was leaving are in fact true!
What a short career, two or so years here doing what? Surely a waste of time and money?
Goodbye, good luck and good riddance Vera.

Bad losers ? No ! just disgusted at the lack of democratic process in this whole underhand affair.
Democracy = government by the people.
The electorate have not been given a fair and honest chance to govern this massively important issue.
Geoff, how can i contact you directly ?
This current administration will be known for many years ahead as the single-term mob.
It will take a lot of hard work to repair the damage they have done and rebuild the funds they have squandered.
I don't know whether your party can do it Geoff, but I suspect you might be given the chance before long.
In his dreams?
Geoff can be contacted on geoff.lumley@iow.gov.uk - if you email him on that he will contact you directly.
And unpleasant-Anonymous - I did graduate, but only with a 2.1 - sorry. I didn't take a place from someone and then fail to complete (twice!!) So what if it is personal - this bloke is telling us lies, pontificating about education and all the time he never completed his. His life experience appears to be: school, university, drop out, job where he accused of being a "cheating bastard", leaves under that cloud, copy boy, university, drop out again, Leader of Council. Not a fab CV for someone who asks us to trust him with our kids' futures.. Even the `orrible little man Sutton had had a proper job!
Tut tut. I hope the boy Pugh doesn't read this, Geoff may get sued!
Good point, although as the cheating story has been in the Daily Mirror and the rest is factually true (education and jobs) then I don't think there will be a problem.
It's rather amusing that 'Vera's Blog' is still on the council website:
"Similarly, the report of me applying for other jobs isn't true. I don't know why these rumours start or for what motivation, but why should I?"
I'm just waiting now for Pugh to announce that he's not resigning. That will be a great relief.
The Daily Mirror of course can be relied on. They have no issue with Tories.
Let's face it not much at the Mirror has changed since former Labour Mp Robert Maxwell was in charge.
The Mirror is,in the main, a Labour paper, no doubt - like the Mail, Telegraph, Express, Daily Star etc and any number of Sundays are Tory papers. Please don't claim anti Conservative media bias! That looks desperate.
If the story were untrue someone would have challenged it. The story has been repeated so many times on local websites (and I believe the BBC filmed it also)that if it were not true it would have been challenged. The Council has threatened to sue individuals over several comments from "save our schools" et al but not the "cheating bastard" story or the link to the site. Wonder why??
