SCHOOLS DECIMATION TO HAVE EARLY DEBATE
Thanks to 16 IW Councillors agreeing to the need, the following Motion will now be discussed at the Full Council meeting on 20 FEBRUARY:
"In view of the widespread public concern and as the Isle of Wight Council had not received guidance from the DCSF on any issues of concern to be addressed by the Primary Capital Programme by 31st January, Council resolves to abandon the current informal consultation on education reorganisation. Council also instructs the Cabinet member for Children & Young People to secure from officers a plan and consultation proposals for managing surplus school places that does not result in mass school closures and damage to local communities."
The 16 are - Cllrs Joyce (proposer), Adams, Arnold, Bishop, Bowker, Chapman, Churchman, Foster, Gardiner, Humby, Knowles, Lumley, McRobert, Mosdell, Price and Swan.
Obviously if this were to be agreed it would be a tremendous outcome. If not, there is still a debate on 19 March when IW Councillors will have to register their positions on the 3 Options

What a brilliant idea. We now need these members to hold together. There are other ways to reduce surplus places. Go for it. Well done Geoff and others.
What a rag bag of wanabees and never wases. What a stunt, a wate of time
Thanks Anon 2 - or should I call you David ? Your forensic analysis is so valued !
David? Some mistake surely. I look forward to being in the chamber next Weds, what fun we shall have watching the great and good bitching at each other.
W H Oami.
What is the Andy Sutton view on these proposals .?- He didn't come up with anything similar when he was in charge.
Andy Sutton's real view is not known, but his stance on Wednesday was to turn up and vote as instructed against the motion. Of course he can't not do as he's told. The one vestige of his old life he has left is his work on the mainland representing the Council - this would be taken away at the stroke of a pen if he displeases the Leader. How humiliating for him to be in that position.
