Well I finally accessed the education consultation webpages this morning and I am astounded.
Not content with the uncertainty they have caused over the last nearly 3 years in our schools, the Tories have now decided that no matter what reorganisation option people prefer they are going to close at least 27 of our 67 schools with a totally unnecessary reorganisation. Further, 23 schools are GUARANTEED to close, whichever option for change is selected.
Is this perhaps a case of history repeating itself as farce, after the Liberal suicide over school reorganisation back in 2004/05 ? I bet there are numerous unhappy Tory councillors today..........will be interesting to see how many are left in their group by the end of this process.
Of course the IW LibDems supported this latest consultation on the 3 options at the Full Council back in November, and presumably are happy that at least 31 schools will close if their two-tier preference was chosen.
Labour supports the option that does not lead to school closures, and always has done. The option of NO CHANGE to our existing school system; just change to the standards delivered therein. But its not part of the consultation.......

This is the biggest thing to hit the Island for years. Dozens of schools to close. Kids who used to walk to school now needing 'school runs'. No status quo option. Is this what people voted for?
Easy answer - NO ! And it also includes what the previous Council were proposing for a 2-tier system.
Where are Pugh and Wells? Why are they not facing the public. Maybe they don't want people actually seeing them commit political suicide?
Good for you Geoff, right now we need a strong opposition to this madness. The entire system doesn't need overhauling, just elements within the system do. There are schools set to close under the three options that have very good OFSTED reports, what sense? The money that has been spent on schools since the start of the Partnering Agreement will have been wasted, and this is a large amount of money. Once again, finance drives the decision makers. This is nothing to do with education!! We are being hammered with green taxes, and this council wants our children to be driven to school, as few of them will be able to walk to school. So it seems that even a 5 year old can have a large (carbon) footprint! The Torys, along with the Post Office, are ripping the heart out of our villages. This will be to the severe detriment of our lovely Island. Go Labour! We really need you!
