SCHOOLS PROTEST IN SHANKLIN

Today I managed to get out to a schools protest when I joined the 500 people who silently and peacefully marched through Shanklin to demonstrate outside the local Conservative Club (see left).

The protestors here and in Ryde this morning were joined by a dozen Isle of Wight councillors, including Deborah and I. Real cross-party representation in this campaign is very evident.

The coalition of people who are working against the mad Tory leadership proposals in the interests of the whole Island surely must mean something to Pugh and his sidekicks

Best of luck with your campaign. We have a similar issue here in Stoke where the council and mayor want to close all the schools and replace them with PFI academies. Unfortunately it's a Labour-run administration (in coalition with the Tories!) that's pushing it through.

To 'a very public sociologist', can you perhaps read and post on the www.saveiowschools.co.uk site. Try the 'have your say' thread. It's useful to know what other areas are going through.

Yes, great words but it's a Labour government pushing this not really local Tories.

Marching 'past Pugh's road' and 'round the conservative club' shames whoever organised this. It has become too persona, all the save our schools people want is to save their own school they don't seem interested in the much needed improvements in education for all island kids. It's they who are barmy not Pugh and Wells.

Support for this sos campaign is slipping away. Only 30 or 400 went on Saturnday, maybe 30 to Ryde. The majority of islanders want lowest possible council taxes and a better education for children not to 'save' small unviable schools.

There were about 250 protesters in Ryde last weekend for the Greenmount samba/carnival protest, most of the school community and we were joined by protesters from St Helens, Wroxall, Gurnard and St Marys' The atmosphere was brilliant, and the support from people who were watching fantastic

'30' people in this video ....

they must be walking round and round the block because I made it around 300 - ask anyone who was anywhere near Ryde on Saturday

Support slipping away ? - dont be ridiculous.
