CONTINUING COMMUNICATIONS FAILURE

As I anticipated earlier this week, tonight's Scrutiny Committee was a non-event as far as the IW population is concerned, thanks to the failure of the highly expensive Council 'communications' contract to give us any support.

With another failure to deliver what they have promised me as Scrutiny Chair too many times over the last year, its back to self-communication for me.

Anyway, in the absence of any press and with only one member of the public, it was a bit like the days when the LibDem chaired the committee back in late 2005.

And that is such a shame. We were looking into a probable enquiry into how the IW Council can maximise waste recycling, at a time when our landfill is nearly full and despite excellent household recycling performance, commercial and industrial waste management is entirely absent. The responsible Director and two of his excellent staff were at the Committee to give evidence and make suggestions, and were clearly pleased at the interest we are showing in this important area for the Island.

Sadly, only readers of this blog will know about it - unless I do something myself.........

You must know the powers that be are trying to freeze you out, Geoff! I know it, your fellow councillors know it as do most of the council employees. Why? because you are doing a good job. You knew being a labour Councillor here on this Island was never going to be an easy ride. Don't let the B*****ds grind you down! Even those who are not natural Labour supporters are with you.

Agreed. There is no room for secrecy in local government - that only breeds waste and corruption. The only way we can have any faith and trust in a council is for them to tell us what they are doing and why.
