SLOWLY BACK TO FULL THROTTLE

The week after the winter break is always a time when it seems to be very hard to get going again! Nonetheless, I was back in action from Wednesday when I attended as a governor a development day at Downside Middle and left feeling that something is definitely bubbling there these days.

Yesterday I spent getting Scrutiny back into gear, with a number of our important enquiries due to conclude in the next couple of months, and quite a number of new enquiries added to the work programme for commencment as soon as we have the time. The problem is that we are so shorthanded as we are now down to 8 after the resignation of one of our lay people - hopefully to be replaced soon - and the continuing refusal of the Liberal Democrats to help hold this administration to account.

Indeed when you look at it the 2 Labour councillors each have membership of two formal committees/commissions = a factor of 2; the 4 Independents have 5 committee memberships between them = a factor of 1.25; and the 5 Liberals have 4 committee memberships between them = a factor of 0.8 (and their Leader has 3 of them!).

Who really tries to provide opposition on this Council ?
